keen observations

“Symbolism is the language of the Mysteries.” Manley Hall, Canadian-born author and astrologer. 

The ancient Egyptians left behind a vast library of knowledge through their architecture, hieroglyph, art and symbols. Hall believed that symbols through time and space, communicate to us, “thoughts which transcend the limitations of language.” 

I keep returning to these ancient sites and each time discover something new about Egyptian culture and about myself. An outer event can trigger an inner thought or feeling while an inner thought can shed new light on an outer event. 

Non-judgmental observation is the key in understanding both worlds. 

The Egyptians were keen observers of the natural world as well as the stars and heavens. They gave us the first accurate calendar, a system of mathematics, an effective system of medicine, glass technology, irrigation systems and so much more. 

They were also astute observers of the inner worlds. For example, they recognized many more senses than our accepted 5 of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. 

Alchemy and chemistry both stem from the ancient name for the land of Egypt, Khem, as a reminder of their knowledge of transformation of both the inner and outer landscapes.
